What drives the aesthetic of your personal living space? Kids? Memories? Best Neighborhood Home Competition Race? All valid reasons I say. Whenever I move into a living space or assist others with there's I always remember the three M's:
Motivation, Memories , and Music
Motivation isn't just the why you are creating something, but the what that you wish to create too. Being a color guard instructor for 15 years now the what is the foundation of any space you choose to create in. My motivation begins with the feeling that I want my guests to have. What feeling do you want my guests to have when they walk into your home you ask? The sky is the limit. I always want to make sure that the emotion that is being intended is clear. When you walk into a funeral that emotion is usually pretty clear. A birthday party, graduation celebration, or a fundraiser all have specific motivations that have specific feels to them.
My personal favorite is helping others to feel like while they are in my home that they can escape the usual. I ensure that when they come into my home they are able to experience things as if they just walked into a new culture for the first time. Why take the time to create this?
I believe that everyone should experience things as if they were VIP everywhere they go!
How people remember things is effected by the way they felt when they experienced the area themselves. Memories are created not by viewing the memories you have with other people, but by being able to experience new memories with you. What does your space lend for new memories to be created? Consider some of the following items when decorating your space:
* Drink Bar
* Conversation Pieces (Interesting Art, Original Pieces, Custom Furniture)
* Gaming Systems (Virtual Reality, Play Station, Nintendo)
* Ask yourself what makes choosing a particular hotel interesting? (Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans has a rotating carousel that is a bar.)
* All inclusive gaming (Card Games, Board Games Etc.)
I understand that putting a rotating bar in your home is somewhat less than ideal. From the same light though what drives your guests to want to come back and visit with you. Better yet what makes you smile every day in your home from the memories being created there?
..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... (looking around the room awkwardly yet?)...... ..... .....
Ever have that awkward silence that begs an entrance of a 90's rock band to fill up the space? No? I thought everyone had that lol. Music is the pathway to the soul at least it is to my soul! Having some good tunes in the back ground isn't just for the wealthy and every time the neighbor stops by you don't have to hire a professional DJ. A small gathering of people especially when all parties are grouped around in a circle can have any awkward moments eliminated with music. Id be lying if I said showing off a great sound system isn't a good time.
So remember if you think that decorating your home is a waste a time:
Memories are created by the music in our lives that motivated us! <------- see what I did there? lol
